Heartfelt thanks to vital tourism and events volunteers

Moreton Bay Region Industry and Tourism (MBRIT) recently celebrated the vital role of volunteers in the region at an event honouring their contribution during National Volunteer Week.

The week, held from May 15-21, is Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteering and adopted the theme – The Change Makers.

MBRIT celebrated with some of the 300 tourism and event volunteers who are on hand at the region’s events and in its five accredited visitor information centres and new box office at Kippa-Ring.

MBRIT manages, on behalf of the Moreton Bay Region, the volunteer program and the tourism and event volunteer team.

This includes training, recruiting, rostering and recognition of the volunteers on a day-to-day basis.

MBRIT recognised Keven Keary and Sharlene Reimers for 10 years of volunteering at events during the National Volunteers Week celebration which was held at Brendale’s newly opened Hip Hops Brewing.

Tourism volunteers were also recognised for five, 10, 15 and 20 years of service.

Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor Peter Flannery, Queensland Information Centre Association President Marinella Ghion and Volunteering Queensland’s Andy Parkinson presented special pins to volunteers in attendance as well as the special milestone badges.

The Woodford Visitor information Centre also received a Commendation Award from the Driver Reviver program, acknowledging the efforts of volunteers who assist that program every school holidays.
